Biography
Troy Haws is guitarist and singer from Victoria, B.C. well versed in several styles including Jazz, Rock and Top 40 music. Haws jokingly tells everyone who asks what he will do with his music is be a “rock star” though he almost gave up pursuing that ‘rock star’ dream. After his jazz diploma studies at Camosun College ending in 2012, Haws started exploring other career options. He discovered: “…after working a construction job for several months and having a lot of conversations with people… I would be pretty dumb to stop going after music at this point in my life…” Haws performed with Victoria, B.C. singer Shanna Dance at the TD Victoria International Jazz Festival in June 2013. Haws then released an EP of mostly original Jazz instrumentals in July of that year. Both opportunities gave him several opportunities to work with some of the best musicians in Victoria. Haws currently resides in Toronto, ON and is working towards his Bachelor of Music at the prestigious Humber College. He is involved in two musical projects: He leads “Ten Simple Strings” and is working on his own material. Ten Simple Strings is a wedding and event based group performing mainly covers of hit songs from the last 60 years. Haws formed Ten Simple Strings with cellist Telan Wong in 2014. Both came together with a diverse set of skills and experiences playing professionally. They have release two cover songs; Sting’s “Ever Breath You Take” and The Beatles “In My Life,” available through www.tensimplestrings.com .
Haws says his goal is to “continually be a melodic player making his guitar emote as much as a skilled singer would.” Haws is in the process of writing songs with plans to open for local music artists in Toronto.
